In my experience, creating the privilege of being of service in my life is to be witness to the miracle of positive transformation, one of the most powerful and provocative aspects I have encountered. With every act of service and every act of art created, any perceived margin between the two diminishes. I imagine this idea to be begotten by the beliefs that all is one (everything is interdependent) and compassion is the driving force of the universe. Growing up, I had two very strong, innate convictions:
I was born to dance.
Everything has consciousness (or what I then called “feelings”) and was therefore fundamentally like myself.
On this tiny planet in an infinite universe, I cannot think of a better way to live than to be happy and there is nothing I have found to make me happier than to live in harmony and generosity with my planet and my fellow sentient beings. I whole heartedly welcome the marriage of art and service in my life. And sometimes service is a message best portrayed and received through the visceral properties of the performing arts.
